Role Overview

The Communications Officer will lead the development and implementation of strategic communication initiatives that amplify Amnesty International Ghana’s voice, engage diverse audiences, and strengthen our advocacy impact. This role requires a dynamic individual with strong storytelling skills, digital expertise, and the ability to manage media relations effectively.

Working Relationships

The Communications Officer will be supervised by and report to the Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Communication Planning: Develop and execute communication strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Media Relations: Build and maintain relationships with journalists, media houses, and influencers to secure coverage.
  • Content Creation: Produce high-quality content for press releases, newsletters, social media, and the website.
  • Digital Engagement: Manage social media platforms and digital campaigns to increase visibility and engagement.
  • Brand Management: Ensure consistent messaging and adherence to Amnesty International’s brand guidelines.
  • Crisis Communication: Respond promptly and effectively to sensitive issues and reputational risks.
  • Monitoring & Reporting: Track communication performance metrics and prepare periodic reports.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years’ experience in communications, media relations, or advocacy work.
  • Strong writing, editing, graphics design and storytelling skills.
  • Proficiency in digital tools, social media management, and analytics.
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Fluency in English (knowledge of local languages is an asset).
