Amnesty International Ghana has been tirelessly championing the cause of human rights since 1973. For five decades, we have been at the forefront of the fight for human rights, restoring the dignity and humanity of ordinary Ghanaians and paving the way for everyone to live their best possible lives. We’ve come a long way since 1971 when a group of Ghanaian lawyers, led by Mr. Gershon Gokunu, the International Officer of the Africa Section, introduced the idea of Amnesty International to Dr. I.S. Ephson, who later became the secretary. Together with their fellow lawyers, including Bishop Bawa, the 1st Vice Chairperson, Osei Nyame, Nana Osafo Boaben, Banaman, and Alex Asante Tano, Amnesty International Ghana was born in the heart of Ghana’s capital, Accra.
