At Amnesty International, we campaign for a world where everyone enjoys human rights, regardless of their identities. In Ghana and globally, period poverty and stigma around Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) hinder progress toward gender equality. Myths, cultural taboos, and stigma make it challenging for women and girls to discuss menstruation freely, while import taxes on sanitary care products further reduce access for those in poverty.
The Amnesty International Ghana MenstruART Competition is an initiative that aims to highlight these issues through an immersive art experience. By centering the experiences of women and girls around menstrual health and period stigma, this competition advocates for the end of period poverty as a human right to health.
